TO Smoothie
/Guys, this is my go to smoothie, that I'm now naming the TO Smoothie :) Sometimes it's pretty (when I'm taking pictures for a blog, or have guests), sometimes (usually) it's not.

Personally, I think the key to a good smoothie is to have fun with it! You don't have to follow this recipe exactly, use it as a guideline and experiment. Here is my standard list of ingredients & foods I always have stocked:
- Plant based protein powder or collagen
- Nut Milk
- Filtered Water
- Usually frozen, sometimes fresh vegetables & a little bit of fruit
- Healthy fat- coconut meat, avocado, nut butters, chia seeds
- Vegetables - I usually rotate between steamed then frozen cauliflower, zucchini & summer squash, and frozen/fresh spinach, mixed greens
- Fruits- I normally use Wyman's of Maine or Cascadia Farms frozen fruits- typically mixed berries, straight blueberries or a mix with mango or pineapple (contains a great digestive enzyme called Bromelain)
- Don't limit yourself to these few fruits & veggies, find something you want to try- do it! Just be mindful about the fruit you put in your smoothie- too much sugar! Bananas can be good addition and help make it thicker, but I recommend limiting to only 1/2 a banana
- Sometimes I mix up the seeds, use different nut/seed milks (whatever's in the fridge), add cacao powder or nibs, add a nut butter, or use a greek or coconut yogurt if I want something tangier & thicker. Have fun with it! Discover what tastes good to you and fills you up.
Not sure what protein powder to buy? I feel you, there's a TON on the market these days and to be honest, I haven't found my perfect match yet.
Some things to keep in mind when shopping for protein powder is to purchase organic products with clean ingredients. Watch out for GMO and artificial ingredients, sugar content, and gluten and milk products. Keep in mind that organic products will typically be more expensive, but I feel it is worth it in the long run. I'm not saying go out and buy the most expensive plant protein out there- I mean do it if you want, but read the ingredients and decide whats works best for your body and wallet.
If you find one you really like please share and I'll do the same!
That being said, I always keep a plant-based protein & collagen powder on my shelf. Right now I have Orgain Organic Plant Protein and Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides.

Now for the recipe : )
TO Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1/4 c Wyman's of Maine frozen blueberries, strawberries and mango
- 1/2 c steamed/frozen zucchini & squash
- 1/2 avocado
- 1/2 tsp maca powder - optional- superfood that contains antioxidants and help with hormone balance & energy levels
- 1/2 c homemade hemp seed milk
- 3/4 c filtered water
- 2 scoops Vanilla Orgain Protein or 2 scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Powder
- Pumpkin seeds, unsweetened shredded coconut and chia seeds to top!
- Blender
- These portion sizes can be flexible too! I used the smaller cup for my blender, that holds about 18 oz., adjust portions according to blender size & appetite.
Instructions:
- Add all ingredients to the blender. I like to add liquids first, then powder, then solids to help mix everything up evenly and to avoid the protein congealing at the bottom (this happens easily with collagen)
- Blend until smooth
- Add toppings if desired
- Take pretty pictures ;) and enjoy!
I don't normally recommend shakes as a meal replacement, but as a way to refuel after workout, midday pick me up, snack when running out the door, etc. I love smoothies because it's a great way to sneak in extra vegetables, nuts and seeds into your daily intake. Sometimes it's hard to get in 5-7 servings of veggies in a day, why not knock out 1-2 servings with a healthy smoothie?!
